Academies

Several times a year Capital AHEC in conjunction with WorkSource provide academies for students and counselors.  Students have the opportunity to attend one day academies on Nursing and Allied Health professions.  These academies are offered to students who show an interest in these areas and focus on educating students on the options available.

Allied Health
During the Allied Health Academy students learn about the opportunities in healthcare that are available for those who are not interested in becoming a doctor or a nurse.  Careers in allied health are expanding and becoming more popular but many are unaware of the new opportunities.  This day long experience will teach you what is available and how best to go about pursuing those careers.

Nursing
Due to the large shortage in nursing throughout the United States, two nursing academies are offered this year.  There has never been a better time to consider a career as a nurse and at this academy you will discover what the benefits and challenges are in the profession.  You will speak to nurses throughout the Austin area and learn why this could be the career for you.

The next Nursing Academy will be offered May 9th.  To register for the nursing academy fill out and submit an application by April 30th.

Counselor
Capital AHEC understands the importance of school counselors and how important it is for you to have the latest information on different careers.  The Counselor Academy is held at least once a year and is dedicated to updating counselors on the latest changes in healthcare and providing resources to you in order to inform students on the numerous opportunities available through a health career.
