The Capital Region has put together a wide variety of resources to help you get started in your quest for a career.  It is a long journey but an important one.  Check out the different opportunities for you!

H.O.T Jobs (Health Opportunities in Texas)
This is a cool guide to teach you about health careers in Texas. The web site lists over 80 different health careers, their job responsibilities, work environments, job outlook, length of training/requirements, licensure/certification requirements, salary, education programs available, and professional associations.

Summer Camp
Each year Texas AHEC East - Capital Region hosts a week long summer camp specifically for high school students.  During the camp attendees experience as many different health careers as possible through tours, shadowing, panel discussions, and medical procedures.

Academies
Throughout the year students have the opportunity to attend one day academies on Nursing and Allied Health.  These academies are offered to students who show an interest in these areas and focus on educating students on the options available in healthcare.

Financial Aid
Did you know there are thousands of dollars worth of scholarships that go unclaimed every year?  If you need help with the cost of college scholarships are the answer.

Shadowing
On the job experiences are available for students interested in health careers on an individual basis.  This opportunity allows students to shadow a health professional for a day in order to determine if it is a career they are interested in.

Assessment
Not sure how to get started?  Take this free interest assessment to find out a little more about yourself.  This tool allows you to look at your interests and match them up with possible careers.

Nurse Success
In 2009 Texas AHEC East - Capital Region partnered with Austin Community College to create a program that would increase interest in nursing careers.  Through this program the Capital Region has added additional Nursing Academies and an additional summer camp.

Medical Schools in Texas
Texas has eight medical schools in the state.  Seven schools teach allopathic medicine and one teaches osteopathic.  Check out which school is right for you and what their requirements for admission are.

HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America)
This organization helps young people and adults considering a health career obtain information and experiences in healthcare careers.  This is an exciting time for individuals contemplating or entering a health career.
