UTMB Students

Capital AHEC works closely with UTMB to ensure that students who are interested in completing rotations in Austin have a positive educational experience.  AHEC is responsible for placing the out-patient portion of the rotation and we strive to find the best physicians in the area to ensure the best teaching experience.  Below are the courses Capital AHEC places as well as information on available free housing.

UTMB Office of Regional Medical Education (ORME)
The ORME office is available to help students with the transition from Galveston to Austin.  The staff transfers paperwork and works closely with Capital AHEC to place students with appropriate rotations.

UTMB 3rd Year Pediatric Rotation
The goal of the Pediatric clinical experience is to teach students to develop the basic skills required to provide medical care of infants, children, and adolescents, and to establish a foundation for further training in pediatrics.  Capital AHEC will facilitate the recruitment of a preceptor, provide maps to the rotation site, and provide information about the area. In-patient rotations are served at the brand new, state of the art, Dell Children’s Hospital located in the heart of downtown.

UTMB 3rd Year Internal Medicine Rotation
The Internal Medicine clinical experience is available for students to learn the basic skills required to provide care to patients seeking help from an internal medicine physician.  Capital AHEC will facilitate the recruitment of a preceptor, provide maps to the rotation site, and provide information about the area.

UTMB 4th Year ACS Courses
This course offers fourteen different disciplines in the Austin area.  Capital AHEC will facilitate the recruitment of a preceptor, provide maps to the rotation site, and provide information about the area.

UTMB Housing in Austin
Capital AHEC maintains the local student housing provided to UTMB medical students.  Currently, students reside in the Arboretum area of Austin.  Only UTMB students are eligible for this housing.  If you are in need of housing, please contact Adriane Thompson in the Austin ORME office.
