UTMB Physician Assistant Student Pediatric Preceptorship

Every UTMB PA student is required to take the Pediatric Preceptorship.  The entire course is 6 weeks, the last three days of which require the student to return to the Galveston Campus for activities that include making a clinical presentation and taking an examination.

Preceptor Qualifications
Board certified physicians (MD or DO), physician assistants, or nurse practitioners.

Preceptor commitment per student
4.5 days each week for 4-6 weeks.

If the preceptorship site includes time spent examining newborns, the student may spend the entire 6 weeks with the preceptor.  If not, the student is assigned 1-2 weeks in Newborn Nursery at UTMB Galveston.  The student may spend scheduled time with a mix of qualified providers at the clinical site.
