Graduate/Medical Students

There are many requirements students must meet in order to become a healthcare provider. Whether you’re a medical, nursing or allied health student, Capital AHEC exists to serve as a resource for you to help you meet your academic and professional goals.

Texas Medical Students
Community-based education is a critical part of a medical student’s education, and Capital AHEC helps coordinate and organize students’ off-campus clinical experiences in central Texas. Capital AHEC will gladly offer its services to students affiliated with a Texas medical school. Our services include placement with volunteer preceptors for outpatient clinical rotations and assistance with housing accommodations. If you are interested in completing a course with a preceptor within our region, please contact us.

Out-of-State Students
It is a rule of the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners that any out-of-state medical student placed with a preceptor practicing in the state of Texas must be enrolled as a visiting student with a Texas medical school. If you are not enrolled in a Texas medical school, Capital AHEC will not place you for a rotation within the state. If you have the proper credentialing, however, Capital AHEC will gladly assist out-of-state students in finding preceptors within our 8 county region.

Nursing and Allied Health Students (in-state & out-of-state)
PAs, NPs, Nurses and other Allied Health students may be placed within our region provided that the preceptor's site has an affiliation agreement with your school.

Student Resources
Whether you’re currently enrolled in graduate or medical school, or plan to do so in the future, these resources may provide you with helpful information.

H.O.T. Jobs
H.O.T. Jobs contains information on 80 different health careers in Texas, including job responsibilities, work environments, job outlook, length of training requirements, licensure/certification requirements, salary, education programs available, and professional associations.

Financial Aid
Figuring out how to pay for graduate or medical school can seem overwhelming. There are a variety of financial aid options available to students including loans, grants and scholarships.
